“A great idea is super important for launching a startup. But success? That depends on whether you have an entrepreneurial mindset.”
Verena Pausder
When you start a company, you’ll hear a lot of opinions: “What kind of skills do you need?” or “What did you study, what did you learn?”
As important as a skillset is, the really crucial factor is the right mindest: Do you have this entrepreneurial mindset to lead your company to success?
What is the Entrepreneurial Mindset?
That’s what Verena thinks about the entrepreneurial mindset:
- Think Big
You should be audaciously close to becoming a megalomaniac. “I have an idea – it’s so big that I can’t tell you how I will get there. I don’t have every step mapped out but I’m convinced that I can do it.” Your idea is huge that it will change the society, change the world. People will have an opinion on the idea, sometimes even not the same opinion I have. They will challenge that idea, But you won’t back down because you know where you want to go and what your goal is. And you make sure that your goal is as big as your idea. - You Get Your Hands Dirty
Entrepreneurial mindset means that you’re in the driver’s seat. Worst case scenario? You can drive the car yourself. Of course, you can get help along the way. But in the beginning, you’re on the top of the game. You know what needs to be done. You have the vision but you also know which first steps to take. You are braced at the starting block and you take off running. - Stamina and Resilience
There are going to be many roadblacks, many obstacles to overcome. There are going to be moments where you think “This is difficult”. The moments where everyone downplays the value of your idea while you still believe in your idea. That’s the point where you need to say: “I do have the clarity, I do have the certainty that I will reach the goal, you won’t keep me from it. I am going to clear those roadblocks. I have the stamina to keep going, I am going to make it to the goal.”
What If It Works?
If you ask yourself the question right at the beginning of your startup yourney: “What if it works? What if I really manage to lead the company to success? How many jobs will I create, how many people will I be able to employ? How will I change society?” What kind of unprecedented product or service will I then put on the market? If that’s your goalpost, you will use everything you have to run towards that goal, to reach that goal. That’s why an entrepreneurial mindset means throwing off the blinders, opening your eyes to a huge world, not belittling yourself but proving to the world that your idea is big enough to be needed.
